Vanda Keren, an Israeli born and based artist, has enjoyed a varied career. After first distinguishing herself as an international award-winning hair stylist, recognized for her innovative coif sculpting.
Vanda transitioned from hair sculpting and styling in 1990 to begin her fine art career as a sculptor in bronze and concrete. Her sculptures radiate with a life force of their own, using varied materials merging realism with abstraction. Vanda’s pieces distinguish themselves with sculpted fabric pleats and lace, bodies in stilled movement, long-held gazes from reflective eyes, and tender gestures.
In 2003, Vanda brought her unique touch and multi-dimensional perspective to oil on canvas. Studying with some of Israel’s renowned painters, she’s inspired by primitivism, classicism, and surrealism. Multilayered dialogues between the refined and the abstract, with vibrant and subdued color, her works bring in the viewer with sensitive interaction.
Many of Vanda’s canvases are inspired with multi cultured flavors captured in her minds eye as she travels the globe. Portraits, still life’s and landscapes painted from communing with flowers in Madeira Portugal, butterflies and men with turbans in India, the abounding waterfalls of South Africa, ruins in Pompeii, mirage sands of the Sahara Desert in Morocco, the Dead Sea’s stillness and many Mediterranean vistas are awakened in Vanda’s vibrant colors and empowered brush strokes.
